Many view the story of Mephibosheth as one of great sorrow, sadness and misfortune. While I can understand their view, considering the time that we are in, I believe it best to accentuate the positive even in what seems depressing. Here are some highlights that I wanted to focus on and I encourage everyone to read this story through a different lens:
- Mephibosheth came from royalty. (He was born into favor)
- Mephibosheth’s family line was in danger because of the death of his father and grandfather.
- He was considered (the nurse heard about the calamity and thought of HIM) before he was rescued (She didn’t flee by herself!)
- He was dropped but he didn’t die...
- He was dropped but he was also carried...
Some of us are still “stuck” on the fact (because it happened) that we were dropped but not enough of us consider the fact that we were still carried!
He ended up in Gilead @ Lo-debar (A place of nothingness…A place of no word...A place of…. You get my point)
I know we can all relate to the Lo-Debar place!
But can we still see that there is life in a low place?
Although all his brothers died, and although his legs are broken, he’s in a low place with no word he still has life! Life presents opportunity!
And here comes David...someone else has a thought! Someone else considers him!
The nurse thought about him and considered him (Rescued his life)
Machir thought about him and considered him (Gave him shelter)
David thought about him and considered him (Restored him)
After he was restored he received all from his father’s house. He was wealthy!
As Mephibosheth sat at the King’s table He was indeed lame. But you couldn’t see his weakness all you saw was his royalty because his weakness was covered!
I encourage everyone to change your perspective about how “bad” your life is and consider that having “life” gives you opportunity for someone to SEE YOU, CONSIDER YOU and COVER YOU!
