TESTIMONIALS
Eugenia the Associate: The start of our friendship was amicable. Eugenia, affectionately known as Gina, was friendly and easygoing. Although she didn't show any signs of desiring new friends, her genuine character overshadowed her posture.
Eugenia the Sister: As our mere association developed into a friendship, OUR walls came down. The layers of Gina's life began to unfold right before my eyes. I had just stepped onto the road of her journey. She had already walked so many miles alone. Each interaction with Gina provided insight and deeper appreciation for her.
Eugenia the Author: I could have never prepared myself for the compilation of her experiences. When she shared the necessity and urgency to chronicle her journey, I was excited! I knew her story would propel so many individuals into victory! As I turned the pages of the raw, unedited version of Get Ya Life, I was humbled, saddened, encouraged, and empowered! I had to put the book down for a few days and then return to it. With every page, chapter, and experience, a piece of the multi-layered author was revealed. Gina, the author, holds nothing back and seeks to have the reader understand the reason for every turn, detour, and route back to our Heavenly Father. Gina is not done sharing her story; this is only the beginning!
Get Ya Life, is more than a "good book", it's a heart-wrenching, overcoming, open and revealing Diary! I have personally known this wonderful and anointed author well over 15 years and I must say that I am in awe of her bravery and courage to speak her truth. While reading it, for the second time, I was in tears, as if I was reading it for the very first time.
This Diary is also very endearing as you read it, but I'm not going to say exactly why, you will have to get your own and read it for yourself. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
Thank you very much Minister Buie, I'm very proud of you!
Lovingly Submitted,
Debra Richardson
“All I’ve ever known was:
“the aunt, Gina”
“the preacher, Gina”
and “the poet, Gina”
As the niece of Gina and as a young adult woman, I believe I was given this book so that I would be able to be kept from the pains and the hurts she experienced.
In this book, we are afforded the opportunity to understand her journey to victory! It was important for me to know about a lot of what she uncovered in her book in order for me to acknowledge and to see how far she’s come and why/how her faith was built.
Now, I’ll add “the victor, Gina!”
It is her testimony but it is an inspirational book for me more than anything.
I’ve read this book 3 times in its entirety. When I feel like I'm getting off track with college, work, church, or life in general, I often go back to the last three chapters to remind myself that I have purpose and I must keep going. I have my days where I'll just carry the book with me just to have a feeling of inspiration and motivation.
All in all, I believe this book will save so many and allow many to be set free from the hurt, the trauma, and the pain that we often fail to talk about or discuss in the church.
To my Aunt Gina, thank you for being so transparent.”
“I thank God for this book because I saw that things can happen to people. But if God can help them through it, then He can help me through it! This book made me see the great works of God!”
“You think you know someone, until you finally hear—or in this case read their life story. Their truth, their journey; and than a light bulb goes off, and you’re like okay I get it now. You finally understood why he/she is the way they are. Why they do what they do. Good or indifferent. Introvert or extrovert. It all makes sense.
I had the privilege of reading the raw copy of Eugenia’s life story—-before it made it to the next rounds. (Myself & Camille) Initially, I was reading it from an editor’s viewpoint. But somewhere between chapters 1-14. I immediately went into BFF mode. So many mixed emotions surfaced from each chapter. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I was disappointed, disgusted, I rejoiced. Her ability to be so transparent, candid and vulnerable to us, to her audience is far beyond commendable. You hear the phrase strong black woman all the time and it’s such a cliche. But in this instance that saying has weight and validity. Eugenia is just that. A strong black woman—who was able to defeat and overcome all the lemons life tried to give her! I’d highly recommend this book, not just because she’s my friend, but because her story will force you to do some serious soul searching and evaluating. You’re guaranteed to find yourself in this book. You’ll walk away wanting to forgive, to heal, to love and to be everything God created you to be!
"Just finished "Get Ya Life" a few days ago and it's a must read for anyone struggling in their walk with God because it reveals that your struggle is not unique and that others have struggled and come through with victory. There IS victory on the other side of "the go-through." Elder Buie's story reminds us of the words spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jeremiah 29:11) She reveals that though we may get distracted and lose focus, God does not lose sight of us. We remain on God's agenda. When we think we're waiting on God, in fact God is waiting on us to see Him through the clouds and haze that life brings. I am encouraged to keep looking to God for strength and courage even in the midst of storms, frustration and disappointment.
Thank you so much Elder Buie for heeding the call from God to "open your kimono" to reveal your scars so others can be healed and delivered. You are an authentic example of the fact that what we go through is not just a learning experience for us but also sets us up to be a credible witness to others. I applaud your transparency. God does not call perfect people but rather perfects (completes) the people He calls. "Though trials come on every hand, I feel like going on!" Can't wait to read what else God has to say to us through you."

"Okay, I finished reading "Get Ya Life! From Victim to Victor," by Eugenia Buie. This book is an absolute page-turner from beginning-to-end with stories about Uncle, Cousin, Daniel (a College acquaintance), the Potpourri, Jerome, Rayna, the Cab Driver, Darnell, Shock from the Church, a Meandering Spiral fraught with Pain, Finding a Spiritual Garden, and Putting on God's Accouterments. It's a book that's written in a stream of consciousness which is comparable to the style James Joyce used when writing "Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man" and "Ulysses."
Eugenia Buie, whom I know as "Gina," takes the reader along with her to explore and critique her past and continuously unfolding present. It's been an enjoyable read that required strength to express. Any reader would be delighted to find that hope is on the other side of despair. Minister Eugenia Buie explains that with God, all things are possible. I highly recommend this book, it's a game changer. Free yourself and "Get Ya Life"!
“I really had to read it in doses. I could have read it in a couple of hours, but if I did, it would have caused some kind of healing deformity. So I had to take my time to read, open some old wounds, and heal. While I went through what I did, I felt so alone, and did blame myself for it. But this book shows me that God was right there with me, even when my circumstances weren't so pleasurable or favorable. This book will cause husband to be more understanding of their wife's whose had any kind of sexual abuse. And will also help wife's to be free to share those experiences that they may have tucked so deep down inside, so that healing can take place. I will reread this book with my daughter when she's about 12/13 years old, for preventative measures and just so she won't be naive to the things that can happen. Sis thank you so much. The Nations need this book.
Go "Get Ya Life"! I got mine!”
My love and respect,

“GET YA LIFE!
This is exactly what I’m about to do after finishing this amazing book is GET MY LIFE!. It’s astonishing how words fly off the page into your heart and help you repair certain damages within your inner being. Eugenia has definitely captured so many aspects of my life and has helped me re-live, restore and replace those damaging times with true Victory. If you haven’t read this book get it, and if you have read it, then re-read it again. So be ready to scream, fight and holla as the words connect with you, it’s a worthwhile read so GET YA LIFE, GET THE BOOK AND GET THE VICTORY.
Thank you Eugenia for sharing a part of yourself and letting the truth help us all. God Bless.”
“I finished reading “Get Ya Life” and I must say the transparency that was displayed throughout this book was refreshing. It was relatable in a way that when the story was told, I felt like in many ways I was reading about me. I was able to find myself in many areas of this book. To be that candid and come to the realization that you aren’t the “only one” who has suffered hurt outside AND inside the church?? To feel that God didn’t hear you or didn’t love you? To feel that in order to fill that emptiness you turn to things and people that you know won’t help at all to heal? To feel like you’re alone in a group of people? So many emotions were awakened in me that I honestly didn’t even know I had.
Thank you for telling your story and revealing the real. If you have not read this, you are missing out.”

“Alright, this book “Get Ya Life! From VICTIM to VICTOR” by Eugenia Buie definitely made me GET MY LIFE!! Okay, from the beginning to the end it was a page turner. In the first couple of chapters Gina takes us through an emotional roller coaster opening up emotional wounds that weren’t completely healed, and by the end of each chapter she gives us encouraging words to heal and seal those wounds correctly with scripture and honesty (which I LOVED). At the end of each chapter I evaluated similar situations I have gone through, and I started to forgive the people in my past and forgive myself. I appreciated how she opened up her wounds in order for us to open up and deal with the things we don’t want to talk about. Throughout the story Elder Gina reminds us that we are not going through this alone and that even though we were victims we can flip that and not let it define us. So let’s not stay defeated but let us overcome those situations to become Victors.
Thank You Gina for kick starting the transformation in us for the better ,and being vulnerable in order for us to be victorious! Thank for starting the healing process in us and in me. Get Free and stay free! You better “Get Ya Life” today!”
